La gobernación del Tolima anunció que para finales del presente año se proyecta actualizar el censo de población indígena. De acuerdo con la Dirección de Etnias del Ministerio del Interior, en la actualidad se tiene registro de 43 mil 563 indígenas.
La tarea que emprenderá la administración departamental consiste en recoger las “obsoletas” carpetas que posee e incluirlas en un sistema que permita obtener información rápida, veraz y oportuna.
De esta forma se espera que los procesos de identificación y de censo de los mismos indígenas se agilicen y permitan una mayor y mejor atención a esta población.
Sin embargo, el censo sólo incluirá a las comunidades reconocidas legalmente, como lo reconoce Gustavo Ernesto Rondón Ayala, director de la Oficina de Asuntos Étnicos de la Gobernación.
Según el funcionario, las comunidades deben ser reconocidas en primera instancia por la autoridad local, es decir el alcalde del municipio, una vez cumplan con este requerimiento hacen la solicitud ante la Dirección de etnias del Ministerio de Interior y de ahí se procede a hacer un estudio étnico y cultural de la comunidad para darle la viabilidad o no.
En esta medida, la administración departamental pretende reconocer la mayor cantidad de cabildos y en su defecto, fortalecer a las comunidades a través de resguardos más grandes.
Para trabajar en este tema, la Gobernación del Tolima anunció que se tendrán visitas a escala nacional con el INCODER, con la intención de viabilizar la adquisición de tierras para las poblaciones indígenas.
